Healthy Testosterone decreases risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis

Studies show that low testosterone affects up to 13 million men in the U.S. What you may not know is that Low T carries other complications with it besides just affecting your everyday mood and sex life. There are three serious health risks that are directly linked to low testosterone in aging men. Low T may not seem that serious, but you probably want to know just serious it can get with these added risks.

Cardiovascular disease

Cardiovascular disease is the biggest cause of premature death among U.S. adults. A 40-year Belgium study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism revealed that men with low testosterone are at a higher risk of developing or dying from cardiovascular disease. (Source: Medical News Today) Further studies show increasing evidence that atherosclerosis (cardiovascular disease of plaque build-up inside artery walls) may be increased due to low testosterone. Approximately one-third of men with Type 2 diabetes suffer from low testosterone, while men who are 45 and older with Type 2 diabetes are also twice as likely to develop abnormally low testosterone levels. (Source: American Diabetes Association) It’s unclear whether men with Type 2 diabetes develop low testosterone or vice versa, but there is a clear connection between low testosterone and the development of Type 2 diabetes among aging men.

Low testosterone production is one of the leading causes of osteoporosis in aging men. The sex hormones used to maintain health bones decrease as men age. Although men may not experience the same significant hormone decreases that women go through with estrogen during menopause, male hormone production causes significant changes in bone density in older men.
